Hi, i'm trying to create a timein/timeout desktop application and i'm trying to figure out how i can detect a user's ID from the card...as i do my research, i stumbled upon this active x control which will connect to the rfid reader..

    http://www.scardsoft.com/main.php3?Theme=SCardX

My question is, is there another way to achieve/develop the application aside from using an activex? or is there a rfid reader/write that acts like a standard input device, just like a barcode scanner?

btw, i already have a reader, OMNIKey HID 9312..

    Thanks in advance...

Thanks @Wonderman ..i was able to get samples using com port, but no usb sample...do you have any idea if there's a device that acts like a barcode without using any special control or sdk?

Alright, it would be good to know the outcome of the SDK you bought. Perhaps, you could share it with us.

    There are many on ebay..
    https://www.ebay.com/bhp/rfid-reader-usb
Just be sure to check out if they have a proper interface tho....
Code is for example here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22516812/how-to-read-from-a-usb-rfid-reader
I havent played with it but seeing the code it is rather not impressive..

I do suggest to get in contact with the company that sells it and get the sdk or code first before buying one. Not all readers are the same.
And if at all possible, buy yourself a reader/writer so you have more things to experiment with..
Basicakly most of these things are serial or serial to usb, meaning the code should be simple enough.
Sp be 100% sure to check and download the api FIRST before you buy something!!
