I personally already use a i7 8700K (ive not overclocked).

Im curious if anyones got a Ryzen 2700X and can offer comment on speed difference between the two.

Im considering building another machine and just curious on speed differences and if its worth just going for another Intel i7.

It will be used for rendering in Maya/3DS Max and ZBrush, and photoshop work mostly.

if you can get one of those

Intel seem to be suffering a lot of faults of late, for this one, I don't believe it affects AMD.. Something to consider https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17759762

Here are some benchmarks for Render/gfx for the 2700x https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...Comparison-AMD-Ryzen-2-vs-Intel-8th-Gen-1137/

    TLDR:
While the new second generation AMD Ryzen CPUs are certainly faster than the old Ryzen CPUs, they still can't quite keep up with their Intel counterparts in After Effects. The Ryzen 5 2600X gets pretty close, but spending a bit more on the Intel Core i5 8600K will get you a much better CPU overall and is likely well worth the small price increase. At the top end, the AMD Ryzen 7 2700 and 2700X are strictly slower than the Intel Core i7 8700 or 8700K.

What this means is that for now, the Intel 8th Gen CPUs like the Core i7 8700K are still our go-to recommendation for those looking for the best general After Effects performance.

I personnaly prefer Intel, I have two of them I7-4820 and a brand new I7-8700K, Intel processors has the better performance in all the software universe.
Separatelly considered, may be, just may be, Ryzen has better performance...but...the big problem with AMD processors is THE HEAT!
    My next processor I9...

Well, that's of no surprise since Adobe and Intel have been working collaboratively for some years with the main goal of optimizing their Creative Cloud apps for the latest Intel hardware. If they worked with AMD, it will be the other way around...

i7 for gaming & single core workloads
AMD for workstation & multi core workloads

Keep it simple and those rules will cover your doubts

FakeNinja, you forgot about them pockets ... For intel, true, in single core work it's a bit faster then amd. just a bit. but, (and now comes the pocket part) for that " a bit faster" you gotta dig very deep in your pockets... $$$$$$

Ryzen is approx. 30-50 bucks cheaper than i7 yet slower clockwise. But we can't ignore "2 extra cores and 4 extra threads + low power consumption". Also AMD's are known for optimized graphics ability, so for rendering requirement why not to spent extra bucks on Graphics Card along with Ryzen. Most applications are not multi-threaded and more core means the ability to simultaneously use more apps in parallel. So like a video conversion (mp4 to mkv) will be faster on Ryzen. Only limitation will be, as the benchmark of Ryzen is slower on single threaded load Ryzen will be behind like for gaming - but extra graphics card can bridge the gap with better rendering than on-cpu rendering.
