    Hi guys

so basically I have a laptop that seems to just be going slow (even turning on)
    I have done the following
    virus scan
    reg fixer
    removed all unwanted programs
    checked all drivers
Stopped all programs that are not needed on start up
    defragged
    disk clean up
I used a program clean up master
but still its slow any other advice would be great

    Did you run Malwarebytes?

I would have said the same. Ssd is expensive but worth your money. I ve got a Dell T5500 with 2×2.94GHz Hexcores and 24gb memory. With HDD it used take about 1min 20 secs from pressing the power button to the login screen. Now i have changed to Samsung vNand Sata III 500gb. Guess what i am ready to login in under 25secs. Building apps was a nightmare which is not anymore. Now i have got 4 ssds in all my pcs and laptop.

You can also check for adware, malware, pc temperature and if its connected to the power outlet it might be a bit faster than running on battery. But trust me nothing can beat ssd.

    Hope it helps.

How much RAM do you have? Look at the usage in the task manager, if not enough the OS must use the pagefile which is extremely slow.

Slow machine already at boot may be due to malware. They install themselves through the browser and sometimes they can install other software, and usually the antivirus can not detect because the infection happens inside the browser, or in the shortcuts of the programs. Pass AdwCleaner and then Malwarebytes, they are specialized in this type of malware. I used to run HitManPro but it has been ineffective nowadays. They are all free. Check the list of programs and remove anything strange, search the internet for the name of the suspicious programs you find. I've seen machines with hundreds of infection points, and it all slows down. The programs can also make your browser stay accessing sites without you see, as this generates income in the advertising of these sites. This also slows down the machine. I also do not like to leave the Clean Master, I use it for cleaning and repairing the Windows Registry and after cleaning I uninstall it.

I have seen several very slow machines, with a fraction of the processing power. Most had some malware, even with antivirus running. In short, can slow the machine down:
    • Malwares living in browsers and other places (cryptocurrency mining scripts could suck all cpu)
    • Bad CPU cooling (it slows down to not overheat and burn the CPU)
    • Too many programs installed (but the fodbrothers said he removed what they could)
    • A problem with motherboard
    • A problem with a memory card. For example, it has two cards and one of them is silently disabled because it is bad, the machine will have half the memory.
    • Fragmentation on disk (with normal use, does not slow so much)
    • Little swap space left over

@fodbrothers ,before you do this, first make sure, you have backup your files, Some time Malware bytes do some wrong jobs!

If you think things are going slow:
1st rule out maleware as suggested above.
Use system internal tools like procmon to see whats using your cpu, tcpview for outgoing ip traffic.
If nothing is using your cpu (above and beyond the normal OS stuff)

2nd Run a SMART check on your hard drive.
Wouldn't be the first time that a dying hard drive gives hints...

3rd Check other hardware for problems, especially on a laptop. Anything IRQ related.

Oh yes, If you have an ethernet cable connected to the laptop change it out for a new one...
Wouldn't be the first time a doddgy ethernet cable has drove someone crazy.
Bad data arriving on the ethernet port even during boot will slow down things more than anyone would belive...

Your HDD may be going down the hill...
Use and HDD analyser, like SeaTools. It can do quick tests and show you SMART status.
