Is there any reason to swap GTX 1070 to RTX 2070 ?
NO! RTX is Dead On Arrival. Even with the RTX 2080 TI you cant run games with RTX enabled at 1440P.
RTX isn't even usable at 1080P on a 2070.
Stick with what you have for as long as you can.
RTX is most likely the future of computer graphics but the chances of us getting it at playable framerates at decent resolutions in even the next gen is tiny.
If you can pick up a 1080 TI at a decent price then go for it.
2 of my friends got their 20 series cards damaged less than a month or so! It seems the series has a bug in the structure! Beside that, there's no real Ray Tracing content to play now! The best buy at this time is 1080TI, best is Asus STRIX ROG and keep it as long as you can... You should wait at least one year and skip 20 series at least, even if you stick to your 1070. So forget about it.
not much game supporting new 20 series of Nvidia so you should keep using 1070 for more than year
I know this is an old post but if you still did not bought a card then dont nVidia just want to get the money in your pocket . even now they announce a confused series called 11x without the RTX, just to compete with AMD. AMD just announced from few days VII card similar in performance to 2080 at $700 so not very cheap however if I were you I would wait a little and see next AMD cards how they perform/priced from some reviews.
I agree. Even if there's little performance boost, each vendor has to ship what they've been working on. 2080 and 2080ti were Nvidia's only desktop GPU releases in 2018 and the past 20 months have caused them issues with stockholder confidence. 2019 looks good for them and I bet their stock regains the rest of that monstrous ~30% hit it took at the end of 2018.
Even though this thread is old, this is still a current topic in the industry. I paid $740 for my 1080ti in the past 5 months and the same card is $1100 right now. Even if you're mining with the card, the ROI isn't positive, so be patient and wait a while.
I think RTX30xx series will be more update/efficently RTX operations.
GTX1080 is cheaper than RTX2070.
Save your money.
Its better option to swap firmware than buy exact same sht all over again.
I own a RTX 2080 TI card, really powerful card if you have a good CPU and RAM, and yes lot of issues has been reporterd on 2080 Ti's / 2070 maybe, apparently it's due to the memory controller, first batches got faulty ones. Now they should be fine.
IMHO upgrading to a 2080 from 1080 doesn't worth it... , same for 1070 to 2070.
I upgraded from a 980Ti so in my case it's worth it, I'm playing at 1440p @ 144Hz
PS: The sweet spot for RAM speed is 3200, higher clocks doesn't affect FPS that much.
